Duly Noted: “…but if You don’t, please help me believe.”

Currently listening to: Kirk Franklin’s Help Me Believe

I doubt this will be long, it feels like a brief one… I just wanted to say how this song just spoke to me.

The lyrics express a concern about the inability to hear the Voice, and feel the Source, and asks for clarity, access, and simple guidance; all things many ask for often. After this request, the words say, “but if you don’t, please help me believe.”

That just stands out to me so strongly. How often do we ask God for something, and not wait for an answer, but twiddle our thumbs anticipating our gift wrapped blessing and when it doesn’t come feel annoyed, frustrated, or maybe even question everything.

How many times have you asked for all that was in & on your heart and then said, “but if you don’t, please help me believe”?

I wish I could pull up the scripture but I don’t have access right now, but I think of the man who asked Jesus to please help his unbelief. Jesus rewarded him or not only his faith but his honesty.

My prayer tonight, “if you don’t do anything I ask, give me anything I desire, or help me feel better about what brings tears to my eyes, still, please, help me believe.

If you hear me but can’t offer me what I think I need, please, help me believe.

When i don’t want to, when I’m having a tough time, or when its so much easier said than done… please, help me believe.

I’ll note it, duly. Even if you don’t.

Thank you for writing this entry. It definitely is the “word” I need right now!
